How-To: WWII Color Equivalents for the Computer

For printing on tissue – or even airbrushing – we need to know accurate color representations.  Here is some basic information that I have found.

Sometimes when you are searching for your documentation, you will find color references like this:

That’s great!  But what is RLM04?  It looks like Yellow, but what yellow is it?

After much searching, I found a great site that provides national camo colors, cross-referenced to FS595 value (FS595 is a US standard, not international) AND conversions to both RGB and HEX.  RGB and HEX values can be used to set up your Photoshop or other design software.

UK Colors:

Germany Colors:

Japan Colors:

Soviet Colors:

***NOTE*** If you look around long enough, you will find DIFFERENT FS values for “standard” colors.  This is a hazard.  I don’t know why this has happened, but maybe different authorities have interpreted colors differently.  You can read about my previous ventures in Fleet Air Arm colors here.  Make your choice and live with it.  Regardless, if you have dug this deep into the research, what judge is going to question your choices?
