Airmasters and Others!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Awhile back, I documented a Cessna C-34 that raced (and won) which made it eligible for the FAC Thompson Races.\u00a0 The FAC Rules have changed, but it is still eligible for the FAC National Air Races.\u00a0 Read what I wrote about Betty Brown&#8217;s C-34 <a href=\"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/blog\/?p=3271\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, an EAA video was posted in the Cessna Airmaster Facebook Group (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/569392973252083\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>) which featured Steve Wittman.\u00a0 At about 30 seconds into the video we see Wittman flying a red Airmaster with a white racing number &#8220;45&#8221; on the side.\u00a0 Here is the video:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Steve Wittman\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yYY3CMWAbfs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; what registration number and what race (all required for proper FAC Race participation) and Daniel Henley provided this image:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1939AARGreen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5646\" src=\"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1939AARGreen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"753\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1939AARGreen.jpg 753w, https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/1939AARGreen-300x135.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As it says, this is from the 1939 Miami All-American Air Races and the specific race was for the Green Trophy; a race for C-licensed airplanes with engines displacing 550 cubic inches or less.<\/p>\n<p>This particular photo is FULL of racers that are eligible for our FAC NAR!\u00a0 All you have to do is document them!<\/p>\n<p>The Wittman racer was NC-18554 and according to other Cessna Documentation, it was:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a C-37<\/li>\n<li>manufactured on 09 Aug 1937<\/li>\n<li>sold originally to Wittman<\/li>\n<li>was Stearman Vermilion, with Diana Cream trim, and an Alexander Blue pinstripe<\/li>\n<li>note that the race number appears to be white-whashed on the side.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are four other Cessnas, two Monocoupes, and a Rearwin registered for this race.\u00a0 Here is what I can find on the other aircraft:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cessna NC-19491 &#8211; C-145\u00a0 &#8211; Stearman Vermilion, Curtiss Blue trim , black pinstripe, race number 10 (or 18?) &#8211; no photo<\/li>\n<li>Cessna NC-19484 &#8211; C-145 &#8211; Galetea Orange #55, Marine Blue #71 trim, Drake Blue #70 pinstripe, race number 29 (?) &#8211; plane still exists<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com\/abpic-media-eu-production\/pictures\/full_size_0287\/1431803-large.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"668\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Cessna NC-19459 &#8211; C-38 &#8211; Lemon Yellow #53, Willow Green trim, black pinstripe, race number 32(?) &#8211; plane still exists, but not original colors<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com\/abpic-media-eu-production\/pictures\/full_size_0303\/1456269-large.jpg\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Cessna NC-19464 &#8211; C-145 &#8211; Brilliant Vermilion #60, Drake Blue #70 trim, Marine Blue #71 pinstripe, race number 39 &#8211; plane still exists<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com\/abpic-media-eu-production\/pictures\/full_size_0287\/1431802-large.jpg\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Monocoupe &#8211; NC508W &#8211; Model 110, race number 36, but right now, I can find no other information besides being owned and flown by Larry Cook.\u00a0 He raced it as early as 1937.<\/li>\n<li>Rearwin &#8211; NC19415 &#8211; Speedster 6000M, race number 23 &#8211; unknown original colors, but the plane still exists (I will have details on a different racing Speedster in a future article):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ssl.c.photoshelter.com\/img-get2\/I00004e6C8udqkBI\/fit=1000x750\/20150911-RBrwn-Spdstr-X2E6014.jpg\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Monocoupe &#8211;
