{"id":10547,"date":"2023-07-02T08:30:40","date_gmt":"2023-07-02T12:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/blog\/?p=10547"},"modified":"2023-07-02T08:30:40","modified_gmt":"2023-07-02T12:30:40","slug":"testing-a-new-prop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/testing-a-new-prop\/","title":{"rendered":"Testing a New Prop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My Elmendorf Special Racer &#8211; video below.<\/p>\n<p>After I lost my Caudron, I remembered I have a nearly-new Elmendorf Special to fly.\u00a0 I had built this light-weight for Indoor Flying, but that never really worked out.\u00a0 So, maybe I could get it to fly for the Greve Races in Geneseo.<\/p>\n<p>The Elmendorf Special was the Keith Rider R-5 in its original livery.\u00a0 Later, this plane would be more famously known as the Jackrabbit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/elmendorf2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1729\" src=\"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/elmendorf2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" srcset=\"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/elmendorf2.jpg 603w, https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/elmendorf2-300x241.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 603px) 100vw, 603px\" \/><\/a>I developed a kit for the Elmendorf immediately after I created the Jackrabbit kit from the Tom Nallen plans.\u00a0 There were only minor changes from one to the other, so why not create the two versions of the same plane\/plan?<\/p>\n<p>I am really liking these props that Archie and I are printing.\u00a0 I decided to try my &#8220;embryo&#8221; prop on this model.\u00a0 Basically, it is a 7&#8243; diameter, 9&#8243; pitch, 1&#8243; wide blade printed prop with a Larrabee profile.\u00a0 I &#8220;guessed&#8221; at the blade cross section where the spinner would fit and put those cutouts in the printed spinner.\u00a0 It all looks good, at least.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/NewProp.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-10548\" src=\"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/NewProp-1024x676.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/NewProp-1024x676.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/NewProp-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/NewProp-768x507.jpg 768w, https:\/\/volareproducts.com\/new2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/NewProp.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a>So, last evening, after recovering from our son&#8217;s wedding the night before, I got the 16&#8243; span racer out, complete with its &#8220;indoor&#8221; motor &#8211; a loop of 1\/8&#8243; rubber.\u00a0 After a few test glides\/flights, I had added a lump of clay to the tail to balance the heavier prop and changed the thrust in the Gizmo Geezer nose button and had some success.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a test flight on about 700 turns.\u00a0 I am still pondering if I need to go up in power (it landed with a significant amount of turns) &#8211; or if this size motor will be good, once torqued up.\u00a0 It just might be ok.\u00a0 Next stop:\u00a0 Geneseo.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Elmendorf Special Test Flight\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pnER8qRwnto?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My Elmendorf Special Racer &#8211; video below.
