This is Sky Rocket version 3. I designed the Sky Rocket as a quick-building embryo, with all parts provided and something similar to the “snap together” models of long ago. The parts don’t really “snap” together, but the design allows for rapid building.
My son, Jack built #1 prototype 10 years ago and had success with it until it got smashed in an unfortunate field incident.
I designed version #2 shortly after, because the tail sections were of “typical” construction and not at all fast building. V2 tails were sheet wood with lightening holes cut out – much quicker to finish; just cover with tissue. I actually went to production with V2, but pulled it when a discussion on Embryo rules revealed these tail surfaces were likely in violation – the rules require “built-up” tail surfaces.
This year V3 came into fruition, as my now daughter-in-law wanted to build an Embryo. I redesigned the wing, and all tail surfaces and redrew the plans. She built the first prototype but has yet to fly it. Mike Kelly had built a V2 and expressed interest in V3 so I sent him a kit and he did a wonderful job on the finish and flying. See his video below.
This SHORT KIT contains a rolled plan, five sheets of laser cut parts, and a pair of 3D-printed wheels. You will need to provide some 1/16″ square balsa (for fuselage cross pieces, wing spars, and tail cross pieces), tissue paper, rubber, glue, nose bearing, motor peg, and a propeller.
Recommend a 7″ prop with a loop of 3/16″ rubber.
Here’s a video from Mike Kelly of his Prototype build:
ALL VOLARE KITS ARE MADE IN SMALL BATCHES. IF STOCK-ON-HAND IS ZERO, A NEW BATCH WILL BE PRODUCED SOON. SIMPLY ORDER ANYWAY AND WE WILL MAKE THEM.
